Nice speech as usual from a great writer. Thanks Anna Grafton of Actually Happening for introducing me to the trades of Sandman fifteen years ago. Best artistic advice in the universe: make art. Neil Gaiman says it in a nice, quiet voice. My high school visual art teacher, John Kavalos, said it while shouting and throwing chairs and trying to get people to stop staring at their navels. It worked that way, too.
I gave my first ever commencement speech to the graduating class of 2012 at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
I think I told them everything important that I knew about going out into the world and being an artist, so I may never need to give another one.
